Olympic College joins statewide effort to blend high school, college career training

Alyson Rotter speaks at the Big Blur kickoff

BREMERTON — Olympic College has been chosen for a statewide initiative that aims to let Kitsap-area high school students earn more college credit and career training before they graduate.

The college is part of the Career and Technical Education Dual Credit Washington “Big Blur” Initiative, led by the national nonprofit Jobs for the Future. The competitive grant program “blurs” the last two years of high school with the first two years of college, expanding career and technical dual-credit programs for students in grades 11 through 14.

Olympic College will work with local school districts, employers and workforce partners to build clearer paths from school to jobs, with a focus on underserved students and on matching programs to local job needs. The college held a kickoff Oct. 8 at Olympic Educational Service District 114.

“The Big Blur Initiative creates clearer pathways for students to earn college credit and build career-ready skills while still in high school,” said Alyson Rotter, the college’s associate dean of outreach and K-12 partnerships.

The work starts with a planning phase in 2026, and the college expects expanded programs and more student participation during the 2026-27 school year.
