Flu, COVID-19 levels elevated in Kitsap as respiratory season starts

KITSAP COUNTY — Influenza and COVID-19 indicators were elevated in Kitsap County in the week ending Oct. 17, while RSV remained minimal, the Kitsap Public Health District reported.

Flu accounted for 1.6% of local emergency department visits and COVID-19 for 0.7%, with fewer than 10 visits attributed to RSV. Kitsap’s sentinel labs reported 50 positive flu tests (48 influenza A, two influenza B), 29 positive COVID-19 tests and one positive RSV test.

On average, fewer than 10 beds a day at St. Michael Medical Center were in use for COVID-19 or flu patients. Kitsap long-term care facilities reported three COVID-19 outbreaks and one flu outbreak over the past four reporting weeks.
