Positive COVID-19 tests rise in Kitsap as flu stays elevated

KITSAP COUNTY — Positive COVID-19 tests rose in Kitsap County in the week ending Oct. 24, while influenza activity stayed elevated but steady, the Kitsap Public Health District reported.

Kitsap’s sentinel labs reported 36 positive COVID-19 tests, 6.6% of specimens tested, up from 29 the week before. COVID-19 accounted for 1% of local emergency department visits, up from 0.7%.

The labs reported 46 positive flu tests (44 influenza A and two influenza B), or 8.3% of specimens, compared with 50 the previous week. Flu accounted for 1.5% of emergency department visits, down slightly from 1.6%.

RSV remained minimal, with no positive tests and no emergency visits attributed to it.

On average, fewer than 10 beds a day at St. Michael Medical Center were in use for COVID-19 or flu patients. Kitsap long-term care facilities reported two COVID-19 outbreaks and one flu outbreak over the past four reporting weeks, down from three COVID-19 outbreaks in the previous report.

Regional labs most often detected influenza A, rhinovirus and the virus that causes COVID-19 in respiratory samples.

The health district’s weekly report is at kitsappublichealth.org/cd/diseasedata.
